“The Call’ is a moment I witnessed when at the Monastery of Christ in the Desert, in Abiquiu, New Mexico. As the monk returns to prayer, leaving his work in the field, he returns to his bride, the church. This painting, paired with ‘A Resting Place’ emphasizes the shared spousal aspect within the vocations of religious life and married life. The two pairs highlight a shared moment of returning to one's bride.
