‘Living tradition’ highlights the value of tradition, which lies at the root of both ranching and monastic life. On my family’s ranch, as well as many across the West, we, to this day, rely greatly on horses to get the job done. They are not only the primary form of transportation but the most valuable tool on the ranch. Making my generation's life on the ranch look very similar to my great-great-grandfather’s and the horse a symbol of living tradition.
