“Isaiah 45:8"

“Isaiah 45:8" portrays a monk praying. For what is he praying? I imagine he is asking the Lord for consolation. Begging for consolation in a time of spiritual desolation, something that, as Christians, we each have undergone. This painting is a pair with ‘Dinner Table Prayers.’ In which the two pieces highlight the monk and the rancher’s shared experience of dependence on God, especially in regard to dryness, whether that be spiritual or physical.
